Late Mr. Samson Raymond Waskar

 

Mr. Samson Raymond Waskar who served in the Managing Committee of Tiphereth Israel Synagogue for more than 28 years. He was very dedicated, sincere, hard working personality. During his tenure he worked as Hon. President, Hon. Secretary & Hon. Treasurer. He took active part in the synagogue’s activities such as raising funds, bidding, anniversaries and rituals. Under his leadership, the transfer of ownership of Tiphereth Israel Synagogue from the widow of Late Mr. Aaron Benjamin Kandlekar to the Managing Committee of this synagogue took place in the year 1955. He was considered as a main pillar of this synagogue during his tenure.

Late Mr. Isaac Peres Malyankar

Mr. Isaac Peres Malyankar who served in the Managing Committee of Tiphereth Israel Synagogue for more than 18 years. He was very dedicated, sincere, hard working personality. During his tenure, he worked as Hon. Secretary & Hon. Treasurer. He took active part in the synagogue’s activities such as raising funds, bidding, anniversaries and rituals. Under his leadership, the constitution of this synagogue was written in the year 1965 which is used till date. He was an asset to this synagogue.

Mr. Aaron Daniel Benjamin Kandlekar

Mr. Aaron Daniel Benjamin Kandlekar is from the third generation of Kandlekar family who is served this Tiphereth Israel Synagogue Honorary for last 13 years. He is a very dedicated, hard working, dynamic and a honest person. After his retirement, he works regularly for 8 to 10 hours daily for this synagogue. At present, he is working as a Hon. Secretary but during his tenure, he had also worked as Hon. President & Hon. Treasurer.

He was introduced to the Managing Committee of this synagogue in the year 1998, rather forcefully against his wish by late Mr. Yohushva Abraham Shapurkar. This was the year when Tiphereth Israel Synagogue decided to go far renovation of its present 2400 sq.ft. Community Hall under the leadership of Mrs. Sinora Mayer Penkar, an architect, who also rendered her service free of charge. Mr. Aaron Kandlekar was the main fund raiser for this project even though he was not holding any portfolio in the Managing Committee. The project was completed and inaugurated in the year 2001 in record period of 10˝ months.

Mr. Aaron Kandlekar is also responsible in acquiring two rooms in its synagogue's premises from its very old tenants by an amicable settlements with them. The necessary fund was made available with the help of Chabad as well as the potential donors from community.

Thereafter, he is also instrumental to start "Kosher Mikveh" especially for Ladies in synagogue's premises with the help of Chabad. At present, two rooms in its premises are renovated beautifully and are used as guest rooms for Israeli Tourists as well as local community members. It gives a good revenue to this synagogue. Mr. Aaron Kandlekar take keen interest in giving best service to the person acquiring these rooms. He also gives his best service to the Foreign Visitors during their visit to this synagogue which also gives good income to this synagogue.

He is the main person for promoting Yeshiva Classes both for Gents & Ladies and also for promoting youths for Torah Reading. In short, Mr. Aaron Daniel Kandlekar is mainly responsible for this synagogue's success in true sense.

Late Mr. Samuel Benjamin Shirkolkar

Late Mr. Samuel Benjamin Shirkolkar worked in Post Office and retired as a Post Master in the year 1974 after total service of 40 years. He served in the Managing Committee of Tiphereth Israel Synagogue for more than 20 years. He was very dedicated, sincere and honest person. He had a good knowledge of administration. During his tenure in the Management of Tiphereth Israel Synagogue he served in the capacity of Hon. Treasurer and Hon. President. He had an excellent team work with his collogues.

Late Mr. Eliezer Aaron Benjamin Kandlekar

 

Late Mr. Eliezer Aaron Benjamin Kandlekar is the son of Mr. Aaron Benjamin Kandlekar who was mainly responsible for acquiring the present synagogue building in the year 1923. Mr. Eliezer Kandlekar worked in Store Room as a Main Store Keeper with a prominent tool manufacturing company called Indian Tools at Sion, Mumbai. He joined the Managing Committee of Tiphereth Israel synagogue and served for many years. He was a honest and knowledgeable person. During his tenure, he served the synagogue in the capacity of Hon. Treasurer and Hon. Secretary. He migrated to Israel in the year 1970 and expired in the year 1976.

Late Mr. Shalom Solomon Nagaokar

Late Mr. Shalom Solomon Nagaokar worked in Bombay Port Trust and retired at the age of 58 years. He joined Managing Committee of Tiphereth Israel Synagogue and served in the capacity of Hon. President & Hon. Treasurer for more than 12 years. He was very honest & dedicated person.

Late. Mr. Samuel Solomon Bhorapkar

Late. Mr. Samuel Solomon Bhorapkar served for Western Railway and retired as a Chief Ticket Inspector at the age of 58 years. He served Tiphereth Israel right from mid-fifties till 1975. During his tenure in the Managing Committee he served as Hon. Treasurer. He use to help the Management for bidding during the High Holy Days. He was a disciplined person and a staunch supporter of his colleague Mr. Samson Raymond Waskar. They formed an excellent team work which help them to take various decision in the entrance of the Synagogue.

Mr. Samuel Hannock Talegaonkar

Mr. Samuel Hannock Talegaonkar joined his carrier in Bombay Port Trust in the 1944 and retired as an Account Officer in the year 1984. He was very honest, dedicated, good at his job and an active social worker throughout his life. He rendered his service to different Jewish social organization as stated below :

He was an excellent shokheth, Torah & Haftara reader.

- 1979 - 1983 Hon. President

5) Bene Israel Jewish Cemetery Trust

- 1988 - 1992 Hon. Trustee

- 1992 - 2005 Hon. Treasurer

He helped this organization for distribution of its quarterly issues
    & Collection of Subscription etc.

Many years he looked after its account and he is main organizer of its
    programmes.

Late Mr. Shellim Ezekiel Satamkar

Mr. Shellim Ezekiel Satamkar served for a Textile Mills and retired at the age of 60 years. He was very religious, honest and hard working person. He conducted Hebrew Reading Classes in Tiphereth Israel Synagogue's premises for more than 25 years free of charge. The community children from age group of 7 to 16 years were very eager to be a part of these classes. He taught the children right from beginning till Rennenu Saddikhim, Eliyahoo Hannabi, Daily as well as High Holy Days prayers. He used to encourage his students by giving the occasionally gifts at his own coast. He is remembered by a nick name as "Shelim Uncle". He used to attend daily services in the synagogue regularly and used to encourage his students to do so. There are many students trained his classes who then became popular for their community services. To name the few are Late Mr. Elijah Samuel Pingle, Mr. Ezra Samuel Shirkolkar, Late Mr. Haeem Joseph Talkar - Khajjan, Mohel, Shokheth, Mr. Hannock Ezekiel Penkar - Khajjan. Mr. Shelim Ezekiel Satampkar expired on 11 May 1968 at age of 68 years.

Late Mr. Isaac David Mhedekar

Late Mr. Isaac David Mhedekar was very religious, dedicated, hardworking and honest Managing Committee Member of Tiphereth Israel Synagogue. He served Tiphereth for more than 20 years. During his tenure in this synagogue he worked as Hon. President and Hon. Treasurer. Also he represented Tiphereth Israel Synagogue in Magen Hassidim and worked as an Internal Auditor for them for many years. In addition he worked in the Managing Committee of Sir Eli Kadoorie School for many years.

Late Mr. Isaac Abraham Kassookar

Late Mr. Isaac Abraham Kassookar served in the Government Office at Administration Department and retired at the age of 58 years. He was a very religious and a very good Hebrew Reader. He remembered him for his excellent prayer in Tiphereth Israel Synagogue. He was also a member of Managing Committee of this synagogue. He migrated to Israel and expired at the age of 76 years.
